 to the Bahama Islands

The Family Islands

The out-islands or Family Islands as they are better known comprise the vast majority of the land mass of the Bahamas but less than twenty percent of the total population.

The theme: sun, sand and sea holds true in these islands.  They are accessible by  boat, charter planes and, in some instances via commercial airlines.  Nassau (New Providence Island) and Grand Bahama Island are launching points for all of the out islands and some of the islands can be reached directly from the US mainland. Good resources for the family islands are the visitors guides or the Bahama's Out Islands guide.

The largest, not necessarily in any order, are Andros, The Abacos, The Exumas and Eleuthera. Abaco and Exuma are recognized for great sailing experiences.  Andros has the most dive sites in the Bahamas and the third longest barrier reef in the world. For beaches, Eleuthera miles of pink soft sandy beaches and with Harbour Island just off to the north which is easily accessible from Nassua for a day trip by ferry.

Rounding out the Family Islands: class sports fishing, Cat Island, Long Island, San Salvador, the Berry Islands and the Inagua's.  My other links page will help you find more information.
